Dr. Ramón León has been hired as the new Weed Scientist at the UF/IFAS West Florida Research and Education Center! Dr. León is from Costa Rica and he has a solid breadth and depth of experience in weed science using ecological and integrated approaches to solving complex issues. His extensive experience working with a variety of crops (ornamentals, vegetables, fruit crops, row crops, turf, and biofuels) along with his international experience will allow him to address global issues (sustainability, climate change, weed resistance, etc.) through research and extension. His approach of using biology and ecology of weeds to develop solutions for row crop and turfgrass managers will advance weed science in Florida, the U.S., and globally.

Academic Programs
At the West Florida Research & Education Center, we offer Bachelor of Science degree programs in Natural Resource Conservation, Plant Science: Environmental Horticulture, and Golf and Sports Turf Management (Plant Science: Environmental Horticulture). These programs allow students to earn a degree in Milton without ever needing to relocate to Gainesville.
