From “Florida farmers learn new tools” by WEAR ABC 3

It’s been a good season for Northwest Florida farmers so far in 2012. On Tuesday, some of them learned about new farming tools and methods to help through any future problems mother nature could throw at them thanks to the University of Florida’s open Farm Field Day in Chumuckla.

The University of Florida owns more than 600 acres of land in Chumuckla. Year round, they conduct various research to help maximize production at the farm and minimize damage to the crop. On Tuesday, they passed along their findings to the local farmers.

Tractor pulled trolleys carried nearly 60 farmers from crop exhibit to crop exhibit.

Some showcased the newest varieties in crops. Others, the latest tools to combat insects, weeds and crop diseases.

The University of Florida Extension Office says it will hold another Open Farm Field Day in the fall.
