SWFREC Range Science Program

WELCOME...
to the Range Science Program
at the Southwest Florida Research & Education Center.

The SWFREC Range Science Program is part of the UF/IFAS Range Science Program which is administered through the Department of Wildlife Ecology & Conservation. The primary mission of the SWFREC Range Science Program is to conduct research to find solutions to problems hampering profitable range management in southwest Florida, to develop integrated weed management strategies for agricultural and natural resource managers, and to implement extension programs to effectively convey these solutions to the intended clientele. It is important that recommendations for management of rangelands and natural systems reflect the necessity for agricultural production to remain compatible with the environment and urban development, and to maintain or enhance the integrity and functionality of natural systems.

The program also develops integrated land management strategies to protect and enhance rangelands and natural systems for wildlife habitat, agricultural and recreational uses. It fosters education, expands knowledge, and rewards scholarship, using multidisciplinary approaches, for the purpose of understanding, managing, and conserving biological resources.
